🍓 The smoothie kids keep asking for

This is the smoothie I make for the boys all the time, and they always want more. Creamy, fruity, just sweet enough. It makes everyone in the house happy without feeling like you’re drinking dessert. Frozen strawberries, Greek yogurt, a little maple syrup and protein powder, a quick spin in the blender and you’re done.

💪 About 30 g of protein, just like that

The triple protein source (Greek yogurt, almond milk and powder) makes a smoothie that actually keeps you going, around 30 g per serving. That’s what makes the difference between a sugary juice that leaves you hungry and a real liquid breakfast that carries you through to lunch. Also perfect as a post-workout snack.

🧇 The perfect breakfast sidekick

At home, it pairs beautifully with a stack of waffles drizzled with maple syrup. The smoothie brings the fresh, protein-packed side while the waffles steal the show. You can also pour it into a Mason jar and take it with you in the morning. Simple, effective, and everyone’s happy.

🔥 Tips and tricks for a perfect strawberry protein smoothie

🍓 Frozen strawberries for the texture

Frozen strawberries are the key to a thick, icy smoothie with a milkshake-like consistency, without adding ice cubes that water down the flavour. It’s also a great way to use up a surplus of frozen strawberries sitting in the freezer. If you only have fresh strawberries, add a handful of ice cubes to get the same texture.

🍫 Chocolate or vanilla protein powder

I use chocolate protein powder. I find it gives deeper flavour with the strawberry, almost like a chocolate-dipped strawberry. Vanilla works really well too for a cleaner, softer taste. Use whichever you prefer; the result is still creamy and delicious.

🍁 Maple syrup to balance it out

Strawberries are naturally a little less sweet than blueberries, so the 2 tbsp of maple syrup rounds everything out without making it cloying. Taste and adjust depending on your strawberries. If they’re very ripe and sweet, you can use a little less.

🥛 Adjust the texture with milk

Depending on the size of your strawberries, the smoothie can come out very thick. Just add a splash of almond milk and blend again for a few seconds until you reach the consistency you like. Thicker to eat with a spoon, thinner to drink on the go.

🍌 A strawberry banana variation

For an even creamier and more filling smoothie, add half a banana (fresh or frozen) to the mix. You can also throw in a spoonful of oats to turn it into a complete breakfast that keeps you going all morning.

⚡ The breakfast or snack to go

Pour the smoothie into a Mason jar with a lid, and you’ve got a breakfast to drink on your way out the door or a great post-workout snack. Drink it within the hour for the best texture, before it starts to separate.

✅ What to serve with my strawberry protein smoothie?

At home, it goes great with a stack of waffles drizzled with maple syrup or some Thin breakfast crepes. You can also serve it as a duo with its sister version, the Blueberry protein smoothie, and let the kids pick their colour.

Frequently asked questions

I use chocolate protein powder because it gives deeper flavour with the strawberry, almost like a chocolate-covered strawberry. Vanilla is also great for a softer, more natural taste. Choose a powder that gives you about 30 g of protein per serving and blends well, whether it’s whey or a plant-based protein.

Frozen, without a doubt. They give the smoothie its thick, icy, milkshake-like texture without needing to add ice cubes that water down the flavour. It’s also perfect for using up a surplus of strawberries in the freezer. If you only have fresh strawberries, add a good handful of ice cubes to compensate.

Yes, with any milk you like. Almond milk keeps the smoothie light and dairy-free, but cow’s milk, oat milk or soy milk all work just as well. Each one slightly changes the taste and protein content, so go with whatever works best for your family.

About 30 g of protein per serving, thanks to the triple source: Greek yogurt, milk and protein powder. That’s what makes it a genuinely filling breakfast or a great post-workout snack, and not just a sugary juice. The exact amount will vary depending on the powder you use.

It’s best served immediately, as the smoothie starts to separate after a while. If you want to save time in the morning, make it the night before in a sealed Mason jar and keep it in the fridge, then give it a quick shake or blend before drinking. Ideally, drink it within 24 hours.
