🍓 5 minutes prep, spectacular result

This dessert is proof that you don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen to impress everyone. You cut your strawberries, add the blueberries, limoncello, maple syrup and brown sugar, mix it up and forget about it in the fridge. A few hours later, the fruits have released their juices and formed an absolutely mind-blowing flavored syrup. You serve them in small glasses with whipped cream and people will go “wow”. Every time.

🫐 The blueberry and limoncello combo is pure magic

Most limoncello fruit recipes stick to strawberries. I add blueberries because the result is incomparable. The color is gorgeous, the texture bursts in your mouth, and the taste of blueberries with limoncello is completely insane. The maple syrup and brown sugar work together to create a rich and glossy maceration syrup that has nothing to do with plain white sugar. It’s Quebec in an Italian dessert, and honestly, it works way too well.

🍽️ The perfect summer dessert for entertaining

This is the kind of dessert you prepare in the morning or afternoon before your friends arrive for dinner. While you take care of the barbecue and the rest of the meal, the fruits macerate quietly in the fridge. When it’s time for dessert, you take out the bowl, garnish with whipped cream and you’re done. Simple, fresh, light, and incredibly tasty. The ideal summer dessert after a big meal with friends.

🔥 Tips and tricks for perfect macerated fruits

⏱️ Minimum 2 hours maceration

Thirty minutes is clearly not enough. The fruits need at least 2 to 3 hours to release their juices and form that glossy and fragrant syrup that makes all the difference. If you forget the bowl in the fridge all night, it’s even better. The syrup intensifies with time.

🍯 Maple AND brown sugar, not one or the other

Maple syrup provides a round sweetness and a typically Quebec depth, while brown sugar brings a more caramelized side to the maceration syrup. Together, they create something much more interesting than plain white sugar. It’s the combo that makes this dessert taste like Quebec and Italy at the same time.

🫐 The blueberries are the secret

Most limoncello fruit recipes stick to strawberries. Adding blueberries completely changes the game. The color is gorgeous, the texture bursts in your mouth, and the taste of blueberries with limoncello is mind-blowing. Don’t skip them.

🍋 The lemon zest makes all the difference

Lemon zest amplifies the citrus notes of the limoncello and prevents the dessert from being too sweet. Use a good zester or a Microplane and make sure to only take the yellow part of the lemon, not the white part which is bitter.

🌿 Variations to take it up a notch

If you want to elevate the dessert, add a few fresh basil or mint leaves to the maceration. You can also replace the whipped cream with vanilla ice cream for a more indulgent version. But honestly, as is with whipped cream, it’s already perfect.

✅ What to serve with my macerated strawberries and blueberries?

This dessert is ideal after a hearty barbecue meal. Serve it after my Grilled chicken skewers (the best), my juicy air fryer steak with garlic butter, or any summer meal with friends. It’s light, fresh, and exactly what you need to end the evening beautifully.

Frequently asked questions

Between 2 and 3 hours minimum for the fruits to release their juices and form a beautiful fragrant syrup. If you prepare them in the morning for an evening dinner, it’s even better. The syrup intensifies with time. The fruits can macerate up to 24 hours in the fridge without problem, but beyond a few days they start to get too soft.

Maple syrup brings a round sweetness and a typically Quebec depth of flavor, while brown sugar adds a caramelized side that enriches the maceration syrup. Both together create a much more complex and interesting result than ordinary white sugar. It’s the Quebec touch that makes this dessert unique.

Strawberries and blueberries are the perfect combination, but you could add raspberries or blackberries for variety. The important thing is to use fresh seasonal fruits. Quebec berries in summer give an incomparable result. Avoid frozen fruits which will release too much water and dilute the maceration syrup.

A good quality Italian limoncello makes a difference. No need for the most expensive brand, but avoid versions that are too sweet or artificial. Limoncello brings intense citrus notes that marry perfectly with the berries and lemon zest in the recipe.

Small bistro glasses or individual cups are the most elegant presentation. You can also use bowls if you prefer something more casual. The important thing is to drizzle well with syrup from the bottom of the bowl and garnish generously with whipped cream just before serving so it stays nice and firm.

Le Bleu des Bleuets, 5%
La Chouape
White beer with real blueberries from Lac-Saint-Jean, Le Bleu des Bleuets obviously echoes the blueberries in my limoncello and maple macerated strawberries and blueberries. The dune pepper added to the beer brings a slightly peppery and resinous aspect that complements the dessert wonderfully. Neither acidic nor sweet, it gives way to the freshness of the fruits and whipped cream. A 100% Quebec pairing. See the product
