🍀 Rice Krispies Squares with Lucky Charms and Sortilège: A Sinfully Magical Twist on a Classic

We all know and love a good old rice krispie squares recipe. Quick to make, no baking required, and packed with nostalgic vibes. But in this version—straight out of my second cookbook published in 2020—I decided to crank the fun (and sugar) up a notch with three guilty pleasures: marshmallows from Lucky Charms, the classic chewy texture of marshmallow rice krispies squares, and a splash of Sortilège, Québec’s famous maple whisky liqueur.

The result? A sweet bomb of joy that hits hard. The Lucky Charms bring crunch, color, and a nostalgic twist, while the Sortilège adds a warm, maple kick that elevates the whole thing without overdoing it. It’s fun, festive, and dangerously addictive. (You’ll want to hide the pan… from yourself.)

Perfect for party treats, childhood dessert remixes, or a sneaky Tuesday night snack, this variation is guaranteed to be a hit.

Looking for fun, unique rice krispies squares variations that go beyond the basics? These marshmallow-packed rice krispies squares with Lucky Charms and Sortilège are exactly what you need. Just a warning: one bite and you’re in deep trouble.

✅ Tips & Tricks for Even More Decadent Lucky Charms & Sortilège Rice Krispie Squares!

🔥 Don’t overcook the marshmallows
• Melt them slowly over low heat—too hot and they’ll turn grainy and lose their magical stretch.
• As soon as they’re melted, pull the pan off the heat and mix in the cereal right away.

🥄 Mix well, but gently
• Stir just enough to coat the cereal evenly without crushing it. You want that crunch to stay intact!

🥃 The right amount of Sortilège
• A little goes a long way! Just enough to add that maple warmth without overpowering the cereal.
• Want a stronger kick? Go ahead and splash in a little more for that party version. 😉

🧈 Stick-free hack
• Butter your hands, oil your spatula, or use parchment paper to press the mix into the pan without turning into a sticky mess… otherwise, good luck! 😅

🎉 Eye-catching topping
• Add a handful of Lucky Charms marshmallows on top while it’s still warm for that extra pop of color and fun!

Preparation

  • In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter.
  • Add the mini marshmallows and Sortilège (or rum/vanilla) and stir regularly for about 10 minutes, until the marshmallows are fully melted and smooth.
  • Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the Rice Krispies until lightly coated.
  • Add the Lucky Charms cereal and extra marshmallows, mixing gently until everything is well coated.
  • Grease a 9″ x 13″ baking dish. Pour the mixture in, press it down lightly, and smooth the top with a greased spatula. (Don’t press too hard unless you want to end up with bricks instead of bars!)
  • Cover with plastic wrap and let cool for 30 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
(Pro tip: eat them sooner than later — they get harder as the days go by!)
Frequently asked questions

Yes! You can use another maple liqueur, or simply swap in maple extract or vanilla for a non-alcoholic version. The flavor will be a bit different, but still delicious.

Absolutely. These squares keep well at room temperature in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days. Avoid the fridge—it’ll make them hard.

For sure! Just double all the ingredients and use a larger pan. Same method, same delicious results.
