Kickoff to the Holiday Season with Mini Beef & Bacon Poutines

December 1st marks the official kickoff to the holiday season. The lights go up, the parties start taking shape, and let’s be honest—we’re all already thinking about the food. This is the time of year when I love preparing comforting, festive bites that are easy to serve, especially when I want to host without stressing. That’s exactly why my collaboration with M&M Food Market is such a perfect match: their products are reliable, flavorful, and incredibly convenient for putting together a spread that impresses in no time.

These mini beef and bacon poutines are exactly the kind of dish that steals the show on a holiday buffet. The beef-and-bacon skewers from M&M Food Market bring rich, smoky flavor right out of the box, giving you tender, well-seasoned meat without any complicated prep. Roast them while the fries get crispy, whip up a hot, velvety sauce… and suddenly you’ve turned a classic Québec comfort dish into a luxurious party bite, perfect for festive evenings.

This recipe is built for sharing—ideal for December get-togethers, casual holiday hangouts, or nights when friends and family drop by. It comes together quickly, serves beautifully in small bowls or glasses, and every portion disappears faster than you can say “poutine.”

And for a full M&M-style holiday spread, I recommend adding their Wagyu beef mini burgers, Florentine mini quiches, and finishing with their mini chocolate éclairs. The perfect way to kick off December with a bang. 🎄🔥

Tips & Tricks for Mini Beef & Bacon Poutines even more decadent!

Make-ahead prep for easy hosting

  • Slice the green onions in advance and store them in an airtight container.
  • Prepare your serving glasses or small bowls ahead of time to speed up assembly during holiday gatherings.

Perfect fries every time

  • Spread the fries in a single layer to get them extra crispy.

  • Flip them halfway through baking for even browning.

  • Keep the fries warm in the turned-off oven, door slightly open, while you make the sauce.

A smooth, rich gravy

  • Whisk frequently while the sauce heats to avoid lumps.

  • If the gravy gets too thick, add a splash of water to loosen it.

  • Always pour the sauce piping hot so it melts the cheese curds just right.

Flavor upgrades & easy variations

  • Add freshly cracked black pepper over the top for an extra kick.

  • Sprinkle fresh herbs like parsley or chives for a pop of color.

  • Add a drizzle of spicy mayo or hot sauce for a more festive, punchy version.

Storage tips

  • Mini poutines should be served immediately for the best texture—crispy fries and melty cheese.

  • Freezing is not recommended, as the fries and gravy lose their quality after thawing.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Place the beef and bacon skewers on one of the baking sheets and cook in the center of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the meat is nicely browned. Remove from the oven, let rest for a few minutes, then remove the meat from the skewers and pull it into pieces.
  • Meanwhile, spread the frozen fries on the second prepared baking sheet. Bake in the center of the oven for about 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fries are lightly crispy. Keep the fries warm in the turned-off oven, door slightly ajar, while you prepare the sauce and assemble the portions.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the poutine gravy and powdered demi-glace. Add the water and whisk until smooth. Bring to a boil, reduce to low heat and let simmer for 3 to 4 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly. Keep hot.
  • To assemble, divide the fries into small bistro-style glasses or individual bowls. Add pieces of meat, then cheese curds. Repeat with a second layer of fries, meat, and cheese.
  • Generously drizzle with hot sauce, season with salt and pepper, and finish with sliced green onions.
  • Serve immediately while the cheese is just starting to melt and the sauce coats every bite.
  • For an even better spread, I recommend serving these poutines alongside M&M Food Market’s Wagyu Beef Mini Burgers and Florentine Mini Quiches. And of course, for dessert, nothing beats their Mini Chocolate Éclairs! Enjoy!
Frequently asked questions

Bake them in a single layer, flip halfway through, and keep them warm in the turned-off oven with the door slightly open. This helps maintain their crunch while you prepare the sauce and toppings.

Cheese curds are the classic choice, but you can replace them with mild white cheddar, cut into small cubes. It melts nicely and still gives a delicious texture.

Absolutely! This recipe is perfect for doubling or tripling. Prepare each component separately, keep the gravy hot, and assemble directly in small bowls or glasses for easy serving.

L’Irish Red Ale, 5.2%
Microbrasserie Moulin7
The Irish Red Ale – Île-à-Roux (IBU 22) is a fantastic pairing for these mini beef and bacon poutines: its malty sweetness with notes of caramel and biscuit beautifully complements the richness of the cheese curds and hot gravy, while its gentle, well-balanced bitterness cuts just enough through the bacon’s fattiness without overpowering the dish. Its smooth, slightly sweet body wraps around the meat, softens the natural saltiness of the poutine, and creates a warm, comforting sip that echoes the dish’s indulgent character. A generous, tender beer that pairs perfectly with this festive twist on a Québec classic. See the product
