Ingredients for the icing

  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 tablespoons dulce de leche cream by Chocolat Favoris

Ingrédients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teapoon nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup applesauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 peeled Cortland apples, grated
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • Canola oil for cooking

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine the ingredients for the icing and mix. Adjust the texture by adding a little dulce de leche cream if necessary. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, put the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg then mix. Set aside.
  • In another large bowl, combine the milk, applesauce, eggs, apples and vanilla and beat for 1 minute. Pour into the flour mixture and stir just enough to wet the dry ingredients.
  • Preheat the fryer to 375°F. You can also pour 2” of oil in the bottom of a saucepan.
  • Take about 2 large tablespoons of the mixture and pour into the fryer. Cook 2 to 3 minutes per side until donuts are golden brown. Cook a small amount at a time and wait for the oil to come back to the right temperature before cooking the other fritters. Put a few sheets of absorbent paper on a work surface, place the grill on top and put the donuts on the grill. The goal is to let them drain and cool slightly. Drizzle with frosting and devour!
