This is hands down the best fruit salad I’ve ever had. It’s delicious, it’s fresh, it’s easy to make and everyone is going to love it from the very first spoonful. A big base of juicy watermelon, a trio of berries with strawberries, raspberries and cherries, all coated in a honey-lime dressing perfumed with fresh mint and fresh basil. Zero cooking, just sunshine in a big bowl that you set right in the middle of the table.

This is the salad I pull out when summer really arrives in Québec and all the fresh fruits are at their peak. It’s cherry season, it’s strawberry season, the sun is out and it’s beautiful outside. When Québec raspberries and strawberries hit the market in mid-June, plus the cherries of July, it’s just incredible what you can do with a simple combination of fresh fruits. Make the most of the season. This salad never tastes as good as it does with local, in-season fruit.

My trick that sets my version apart from the classic fruit salads you see everywhere is adding fresh basil on top of the mint. Mint alone is good. Basil alone is incredible. But the two mixed together in the same fruit salad? Absolutely mind-blowing. With the lime zest and orange zest in the dressing, you get 4 layers of aroma that complement each other perfectly. This is the perfect recipe for your Sunday brunch, your Saturday night summer BBQ, your summer breakfast, or for kids who don’t really have a dessert they love and who are going to go crazy for this salad.
