Family BBQ, party with friends, lunch on the terrace, afternoon by the pool. It&#8217;s always a hit and the kids keep asking for more. Unlike canned iced tea full of corn syrup, my version has a real orange pekoe tea taste balanced with the acidity of fresh lemons. It makes about 12 glasses, takes 10 minutes to prepare and crushes commercial lemonade flat. Once you&#8217;ve tasted it, you&#8217;ll never buy a $25 case of Nestea again.<\/p>\n<h3>\ud83c\udf4b The baking soda secret (anti-bitterness)<\/h3>\n<p>The trick that changes everything in this iced tea is the \u00bd tsp of baking soda that we add to the boiling water with the tea bags. This isn&#8217;t a mistake. It&#8217;s intentional. The baking soda neutralizes the tannins in black tea and completely cuts the bitterness that makes homemade iced teas unpleasant. The result is a crystal-clear tea, without cloudy murkiness, with a round and clean taste that leaves all the room for the lemon. Little trick by the way: the baking soda can form a slight foam on the surface. Stir it and it&#8217;s fixed. It&#8217;s the kind of little trick you learn the hard way after a few failed pitchers.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2744\ufe0f Prepared in advance for zero stress<\/h3>\n<p>The beauty of this recipe is that it can be prepared entirely the day before or in the morning. You steep, you add the lemon, you put it in the fridge, you forget about it. The next day, you take out the pitcher, you fill the glasses with ice and fresh lemon slices, and it&#8217;s ready. It&#8217;s exactly the kind of drink you want when entertaining. Lots of effect, zero effort on the day of the party.
